This material shift has made it possible to alter the design, which has increased engine power and durability while also making the unit significantly lighter (10% less load on RB engines). The gear section is coated with nickel to enhance its surface hardness (Hv: 350 †’ 500 in comparison to the previous version), making it resistant to timing belt reinforcement and foreign items that could entangle the gear and belt.
